James's Traineeship in the Netherlands

Agnieszka and I met at the train station at 7pm, after work yesterday, and walked to the cinema to watch "Kill Bill". Some of the fight scenes are so patently ridiculous that they are funny.

When the movie had finished, it was the perfect time for us to walk further into town to attend the Monday night drinks. Almost immediately after we had arrived, Barbara approached me to ask something. She wanted to know if I were available, in a fortnight's time, to attend an outgoing trainee's preparation seminar and speak about my traineeship experience. As soon as I realised what the question was about, I was mentally willing her to hurry up and finish asking it, so I could give an emphatic "Yes!".

I am pleased that I am being asked to help out with AIESEC activities. This is something that I felt had been lacking earlier on in my traineeship. I like how I have been given a two-week warning, so I have time to prepare something properly.

A Dutch student who has just returned from an AIESEC traineeship in Bangladesh will also be saying something. We agreed that we might make a joint presentation and, perhaps, throw in a line dance lesson. We'll see what unfolds as we start planning.

On Friday night, Agnieszka and I walked to Havana (a bar in town) to meet Maja and some other AIESECers for drinks. But, when we got there, only Lia and Vincent were there – they told us that it was only going to be us four. Maja wasn’t coming. I’m not sure why. Maybe she was tired, or still had some packing to do. It was a shame because it was her last night in Tilburg. She caught a bus bound for Serbia at 4am, from Rotterdam.

This makes me the most experienced trainee left in Tilburg.

The kitchen is quickly becoming a disaster zone. The puddle in front of the fridge has enlarged to encompass the whole area in front of the washing machine, the fridge and the sink. It seems inevitable for someone to step into the puddle and track water around the kitchen. Not to mention the spills that are certain to occur when you need to transfer two large bucket-loads of water from the kitchen sink to the bathroom, each time you do the dishes. It is a shambles. It is disgusting to walk in the kitchen if you are not wearing shoes.

Agnieszka did a wonderful job of cleaning it all on Saturday afternoon, but by Sunday evening it had returned to the state I described before.
